A "tag is a keyword or term assigned to a piece of information. This helps describe an item and allows it to be found again by browsing or searching." Hashtags include a hash symbol (#) before the tag. This ensures the associated text gets correctly categorized with the tag.

By using hashtags effectively you can really help your organization get the most out of its feed. Hashtags are clickable in the feed, where you can see a record of all other items tagged with the same word.

For example we use our feed to keep the company updated on what our users are saying by using the tag #customerfeedback, we also add #"company name" so we can look at specific customers information. It has made it incredibly easy to share information with the company and created a living history of what we're working on.

Hashtags are also tracked when content is sent in via email.  We provide a cheat sheet for email here, with details on how to include hashtags!
